I must share this with you. For many years I have walked with the Lord. There have been times when I've wanted to say "no" to something He has wanted me to do, but I don't remember that I've ever just said, "No, I'd rather not." but I did that last Saturday. I had a busy morning, and was sitting down to do some knitting when I heard that still small voice saying, "Ruth, our two elderly ladies in the nursing home need a visit today." (Of course, He called them by name, and named where they were.) Since I was already settled on the couch, and had picked up my needles, I replied, "Oh, no, Lord, not this afternoon. I'm sort of tired." I wasn't that tired, but I said "no" to His request, and I was very uncomfortable. He brought them to my attention a second time, and I kept on knitting. No, He didn't give me a third chance to say no, He just was still, and I became rather unhappy. The knitting didn't go smoothly, and my world was just off balance. I knew what I should have done, but I just did not do it. That evening when I was talking to Him He put the question to me, "How would you answer me if it were time for one of them to come Home tonight?" Well, I was just telling Him how sorry I was for not doing His bidding, and when that thought was added - - - well, what would you say? My reply was, "Lord, I'll go tomorrow after church! Help me to remember this, and not say 'no' to You again." So, did I remember my promise? I did. The afternoon was sunny and quite warm. I took my little therapy dog with me, and we went to the nursing home. I was unable to visit one of the ladies because their unit was under a quaranteen, but I did get to spend some time with the other one -- plus staff, other residents, and visitors who stopped me because of my little dog. And, I was able to offer words of encouagement as God directed. The day changed for me and became beautiful and there was a smile on my face and a song in my heart. Some folks who were feeling a bit left out and forgotten smiled, and my warm relationship with my Lord was restored.

I sure have had similar experiences. I love the way you described it - "He just was still, and I became rather unhappy. The knitting didn't go smoothly, and my world was just off balance." That is a perfect description. I'm so grateful for His grace for all of the times I've been obstinate! -------------------- ....... ...... "... for he loved him as he loved his own soul."
